I've been screwing around w/ the duel boot. After trial & error I had a fat 16 w98 on C:, a 2.gb partition & xp on D:,the remaining 18 gb of 20.I put in a new vid card & screwed up 98(what's new)so I reformatted C: w/ fat 32 & was unable to boot at all.Best I figure is the fat 32 is not supported-only fat 16 & large disk usage also screwy. How can I format hard drive equally to duel boot w98 se/me & xp on nfts?Step by step please.I had it but messed it up.

If you want to dual boot, you need to install 98 first on C: then do a "new install" of XP and install it to D: Make sure you choose "Advanced Options" during XP install and specify which partition and file system you want to use. Take your time and you'll be OK.

Sounds like you had down almost everything right. Did you check to see if the freshly formated C: drive was active (hence, bootable) and that you did a 'sys C:' to put boot files on it? The latter should have been done for you if you reinstalled Win98.

Anyhoo, Win9x (nor any OS) does NOT have to be installed on C:. You can put it on any other available letter that you have. In fact, I purposely leave C: for temp files and put the OS on D: or something else. Just keep in mind that the Windows install will write some files (needed for booting) onto C:, even if you do not install the OS there.
