How to setup a wireless network between my Pocket PC and uh PC?

I am considering getting a pocket pc and when I was on campus and I found the bulletin for that pc in the other thread I made I also found someone is selling a Compaq Ipaq 3635 that he bought and never used. It comes with carrying case and the ac charger and an expansion sleeve for additional compact flash and a 256mb CF with it.

I haven't seem a PPC for that cheap. Then all I could have to do is get the compact flash wifi card for $20 so I could access the net while im on the go.

It has a crisp color screen stereo sound and 12 hour life.

So is it worth it or is can I get a better deal somewhere else?

Seems like a decent deal. I have this exact model and it does plenty of things including playing mp3s and running as a NES/SNES emulator. Back then, I think it cost several hundred dollars. I would be sure to ask to see it in person though, to make sure it's in good working order.

Edit: 12 hour battery life? That's absolute BS. I was lucky to get a little more than 1 hour out of it when it was running the SNES emulator or playing music. I don't know how long the person who's selling it has had it, but the lithium battery must be starting to go by now.

Those are the classic.. if its never used, the battery are probably SHOT... its internal li ion battery, if not charged for a while, it will die. You're better off getting an use dell axim x5.. you can find used for around the same price

I think 12 hours of battery life is the amount of time the battery will last when the unit is fully on. Btw, if you are soly looking to use it for organizing your schedule, then go for it. If your looking to do other stuff like play vidoes, play music, go online, then I would suggest that you inveset more money in a better model.

Personally, If I were to get a pocket Pc, it would be soley for organizing things,

I got it and it works great expect the spring for the stylis is worn. Stupid cheap spring. But i got a leather case which has a stylis holder and the CF sleeve which I am glad the thing isnt bulky with it on. Also got 256mb card. and the adapter and cradle and the manuals and bunch of software. Also has a screen protector. It's in great shape. I now have a geek device to play with.

Also I need a wifi card....

Do I get a CF to SD adapter and get a SD wifi card or

a CF wifi card or

the wifi sleeve or

the pcmica sleeve and a pcmica wifi card?

There some kinda CF to usb? Then usb wifi cards? or pcmica to usb wifi?

802.11B or G?

Bluetooth? Then most of the options for the wifi would apply for this as well.

Combo card?

Which will consume the least power and give great range.......Maybe even support a antanna for the car or a antanna that works with the card wirelessly to extend the range?

Also looking for a good extra battery pack or an external battery that plugs in the ac part and isn't to bulky.

Oh and im also looking for a cheap yet good keyboard that folds out.

If anyone can help me. That would be great! Thanks! I love this thing!

Also is there any free anti-virus, wifi secure and sniffer programs? lol is there a firewall for pocket pcs and would I need one? Spyware an issue? lmao!

Yep, I have the same one and after not using it for 2 years the internal battery last like 10 mins, the CF sleeve battery adds maybe another 20 mins and the dual CF sleeve is totaly battery dead. I bought an Asus mypal A716 and it came with 2 removable batteries which last, under nominal use, about 6-7 hours. My poor ipaq is in my desk all sad and bulky. 🙂

Anyway, back when I WAS using my 500 dollar ipaq I used a PCMCIA Linksys B wifi card. I got some 3rd party driver from somwhere and it worked great. Search the web, I'm sure you can still get it for the ipaq.

Well checkin around online ill snag the Sandisk wifi compact flash with 128mb for $20.

The battery seems to work well. I can get a longer lasting one on ebay for cheap....But the battery seems o-kay. who knows once the wifi card is in. I did also find an external charger/battery pack. Where you put in 4 AA's in the small box and it charges it.

Don't they have a dual CF sleeve or that with an extra battery? I know they have a Cf with extra battery. But that just adds bulk. I can buy an internal battery and install it and get the external changer for on the go or somthing if needed.

Now to get a keyboard. Found some nice ones for $10 which I think is the cheapest. Only use for it would be for notes in class.

Also can I upgrade to Windows Mobile 5.0? and if I can should I?

and how do I take a dvd and convert it to play on the pocket pc and how much space will I need? I have a 256mb card....Or would 512mb or 1gb be needed? Divx is the way to go right?

I ordered the Sandisk 128mb/wifi combo card and found a bunch of cool free progies.

Later on I will order a better internal battery and get a keyboard. I like the wifi card because its the normal size of any CF card which is great because I don't want to add needless bulk. So im gonna use the 128megs for internet programs and such. Should be plenty. I also found some really cool browsers and addons for Pocket IE. The browser that is really showing promise is Minimo 0.009 which uses Mozillas engine. Also got TCPMP which is a way better player than Windows media 8 that came with it. Now I need to the real player and quick time codacs.

So over all im finding various uses for it.

I'm looking for a palm emulator so I can maybe use palm programs and games?

Also Is there a program to use less battery in stand by? I know one of the cool things about Windows Mobile 5 is that is uses barely any power in stand by.

Okay I got the wifi card and I have a wifi card on my pc. None are finding each other. How do I setup this network?!?

Please help me. On my pc im using Linksys D-Link AirPlus DWL-250+ Wirless with zone alarm and avast is that helps and im using the sandisk connect plus wifi with 128megs which you already know that.

So neither one of them is seeing each other?

What do I do?

THANKS!

Okay I got it setup. Just had to click on Ad-hoc for network type. However how do I share internet access on my ppc and what not?
