I don?t know a lot when it comes to anything computer related but I know a ton about baseball I live breath and sleep baseball and I was thinking about starting a site but I?m not sure how that all really works. If someone could help me out with links or just explaining it would help me out a lot thanks.

PS: This is my first post. Hi.

You just need to get these programs.

DreamWeaver MX
PhotoShop

And buy webspace (for a .com name) hostmysite.com is good.

Basicly - a website is constructed of tags (html) that cause the browser to bring up and format it in a specific way. Dreamweaver is a program that will do the tags for you and all you have to do is format the text as if it was in word. You can make tables in it and all.

Photoshop - this is the program to edit your images in. You can also make some images.

Option 2: The programs above take time to learn and are not easy. Go to www.geocities.com and start up an account. They will make a template website for you and give you free webspace. The site will not be as complex or "cool" as other ones - but it's a great place to start. Just answer a couple questions and you have yourself a site.

btw...Html is good to know - but it's not necessary.

ok. we all had to start someplace right?

you need 3 things to start a website:
1. Register a domain name, usually costs about $10
The domain name is the URL like cnn.com or anandtech.com. this is yours to choose as long as someone else has not already take that name.

2. Find a domain host. This part usually has a monthly (~$10) or yearly (~$120) fee, but some crappy services are free.
Generally, the hosting service keeps your website on their servers. Any traffic to your site will route through their network and not your home connection, which is good. To make changes to your site, you simply connect to their server via FTP.

3. Build your site. This can be as simple or complex as you like. All you NEED to get started with construction is a text editor like notepad. you can find a huge number of resources on the web on how to learn HTML

DreamHost.com is offering a very good deal.

You can choose their "Crazy Insane Domain" product for $9.24 for an entire year if you use the promotional code "777" (7th anniversary special; it usually costs ~$120). They are a good company with a long reputable history as a decent web hosting service.

You get:
1 FREE domain registration
www.yourname.com
3 full domains, 15 subdomains
2400 MB Disk, 120 GB Transfer
600 Mailboxes, 75 Shell/FTP Users
Plus, some other good stuff.

The major item here is FREE domain registration. You usually have to pay for that separately. They also renew your registration for free as long as you are hosted with them.

I advise you to first learn how the internet works before you learn any programming languages or applications.

And this really belongs in forum : Software - Apps, Programming and Games
