I want to setup a Win98/ME and RedHat Linux 6 Dual Boot System, what steps do I take starting from a clean format? and assuming my HD hasn't been partitioned yet.
Thanx.

Create a partition for your win98/ME, be sure to leave some space for RH6... then install windows as usual...

After your windows install, create the RH6 setup bootdisk, and boot up your PC with that... next, just go through the RH installation program, and create a Linux partition for RH during the process... When it's time to setup LILO, it should recognizes your windows partition and give you an option to boot into that...

That's it... LILO makes it quite easy to create this dual-boot... remember to create the Linux parition in the space you have left for your harddrive... it is also a good idea to create a small third partition for linux swap too....

I'm not sure if you can do it the other way around... cuz when you install win98 second, it will overwrite the Master Boot Record and LILO will be gone... but of course you can always use some 3rd party software like System Commander for the dual-boot...

I think installing Win98 first then RH would be the easiest... LILO will detect the windows partition during setup and lets you dual-boot immediately...

BCYL: Yes, absolutely correct. Do the Windoze stuff first and then the RH6. Much easier for beginners.

One can even do a triple boot with Win ME/2000 and Linux off of the same drive.

but my HD isn't partitioned right now. Is there a partitioning program that lets me keep windoze right now as it is and create a partition for Linux? Thanx.
