So I was give a newPanasonic 42" 720P Plasma

How much difference will i see between this and 1080i. I mean I could care less since I was given the TV.

I have Comcast HD Digital Cable and an Xbox 360.

Now my question is, how do the I both devices up?

I know in the Comcast Menu I can set output to both 1080i and 720p. What should I choose? Someone said choose 1080i to have maximum info sent and the tv will scale it down to 720p.

I was also told to set my 360 to 1080i as well.

Lastly, I have Componant cables for both the Xbox 360 and HD Cable Box. How much of a difference will I see between Componant and HDMI

It really depends on your TV's and the devices' scalars. Try both resolutions and see what looks best to you. The 360 should look essentially the same since it's all being rendered, but you'll have to try it out for normal video.

HDMI and Component are arguably the same quality. HDMI will let you use less cables since it also carries audio, but if you just have a normal 360, there's no HDMI output.

I would set the Xbox to 720p (closest to the set's native resolution) and have the digital cable box output at the native resolution of the broadcast (i.e. use the TV's scalars).

You should be able to enable both output resolutions on the Comcast box. This is sometimes referred to as "pass-through" mode. The TV will handle both 1080i and 720p signals and will use its own internal scalar to render the image.

MrChad,

Thanks for the help. I will setup the TV today and post back with my settings. For someone as techinal as myself with stereo's and tv's, I have always been confused with resolutions.
