i built my first pc a few months ago and it totally kicks ass. i have now decided to add in a cd burner and i already have a 16x dvd reader. there are only two slots for ide cables on my Asus K8V SE Deluxe and 1 is taken by my HD and the other by my dvd reader. how do i setup up both reader and burner working at the same time?

I would set the cd burner as a master on the ide channel with dvdrom(change this to a slave)

keep the optical drives off the HDD ide cable..this will slow the hdd performance

you can have 2 devices on each IDE cable.. for example.. 2 HARD DRIVES on one IDE cable or a DVD - ROm and a CD-RW on one cable..

so you would have your Hard drive on the primary ide and your dvd rom and cd-rw on the secondary IDE

your IDE cable that you current have connected to your dvd reader drive should have three total connectors on it. one end goes to the motherboard and the other two ends can go to the dvd-rom and the CD-RW
