How to setup 1 mic sound system?

Wasn't sure what forum this was for so I ended up in OT.

We're having a party for the grandparents at a restaurant and I wanted to setup a wireless mic for people to give speeches.

The restaurant already has speakers (the circular ones recessed into the ceiling through which they play background music), which we can tap into. I looked at their setup and basically they have one of those AIWA home stereo systems with the 2 speaker wires (Left/right?) connected to the back.

What kind of equipment would I need to tap into those speakers with a wireless mic so that the speaker's voice would come through the restaurant speakers? I don't think the AIWA system has a "mic in" port.

thanks

Your system needs an audio input, but using a cheap wireless mic over a cheap stereo system will sound awful. If it's an important event then look into renting a portable PA system and decent wireless mic from a local audio place.

i second the suggestion to rent a small portable PA system from your local musical equipment store. it will be worth the money.

Thanks. Do you guys mind providing a link to what exactly you have in mind when you mean small portable PA system?

What if I borrowed an amp from someone to plug the mic into and attach the restaurant speaker wires to it as the output. Do you think that will still sound like crap?
