How to set up PProxy?

How do I go about setting up a personal proxy for RC5? It will be for one client (other than my main machine), a 486 100 DX that will be running KLinux (thans kilowatt)

First thing to do is download the pproxy software.. What OS are you using? I don't know anything about the Win32 version, but the Linux version has a pretty easy to understand readme included (if I could figure it out, anybody can).

well, I will be using a win32 derivative (currently win98). I am building a new computer soon (hopefully within a month) and I was considering Win2k or win98se. (suggestions welcome) As I stated, the 486 will be running KLinux.

new specs of rig:

duron (possibly 600@900) on either abit kt7 or asus a7v
alpha PAL6035 w/ sunon fan
128MB PC133 CAS2 (from mushkin)
either GeForce2 MX (Asus or Hercules) or a 32 MB DDR Radeon
SB Live
4.1 speaker system (TBD either the Klipsch promedia's or the Cambridge SW FPS2000, depending on how much $$ is left )


any comments or suggestions are welcome (especially on the new rig )

The client on the remote PC (your Klinux) needs to point to the IP address or domain name of your PProxy PC. That's all the remote computers need to do. If you have any firewall software, be sure not to block the standard 2064 port.

On the PProxy end, it isn't much harder. It will adjust the buffers sizes depending on calculated traffic. You really only need to tell it where to fetch and flush. Btw, the client running on the same PC can also use the PProxy.

The pproxy's are certainly easy enough to get started and keep on top of. I've got a couple running for my different herds and never have a problem. Don't wory if you do hit a snag though, there are certainly plenty of people here who can help.

As Russ, JonB, and Dougal wrote, it is easy to setup the pproxy. Just download and read the readme. It is chock full of good information. It will run on just about any machine you put it onto. If you run into any problems, we are here to help you out.

Take Win2K over 98. In 2k, you can run as a service and avoid having the sreen always there.
