I have two D411 units and I cannot get either one to provide a test tone to the center channel. I have followed the instructions on setting up speaker size and configuration but when I try to get the test tone to allow me toset the speaker volume there is no tone to the center speaker. Actually on one unit there is atone on only the front left. Does anyone have an idea of how to fix this.

I have followed these instructions and have the speakers set to large in front, center and surround with subwoofer off. The test tone does not play through anything but the front left speakers now. Last week it also played in the surround speakers . My other unit just gives static in the front left speaker if I choose test tone. I cannot figure out what I am doing incorrectly.

Page 30 covers speakers setup. Are you sure all of your speakers are included in the setup?

Yes. I have (FL-CL-SL) selected with Subwoofer Off.
I'm not sure what you mean here, but I'll take a guess. Are you saying that you have Front left, front right, center, and surrounds? If so, did you do step 3 on page 10?

Yes I did step 3 page 10. I have reinstalled the wires from my speakers and the tone test still fails with the center speaker output. Since I have an identical backup unit I have access to whatever parts maybe defective. I just don't know where to begin looking for the reason there is no output to the center channel. I am including some pictures to see if you might help me begin this search for the problem. Thank you for all of your help.

I can’t help with the internal parts of the unit, but I have have a few more things to try. Did you try swapping the left or right front speaker with the center channel output in the back of the receiver, and then try the test tone?

Not sure what you mean when you say no luck. Does the left or right front work in the center channel speaker connection?
I have taken the wires from the working front left speaker and connected them to the center speaker output then tried the test tone. There is no sound from the center speaker output.

I misunderstood when I first read this. So you are saying the center speaker works in the left channel output? We now know that the center channel output is bad. I want to make sure that the center speaker works.

Yes, the center speaker works when connected to the front left output.

I am not sure if an 18 year old receiver is worth sending back to the manufacturer. Haven said that, back in 2003 I bought one of Pioneer's Elite receivers and it had an amplifier issue. The home theater boutique store handled a communications, at the time, with the regional Pioneer rep and he told the store to just give me a new unit. The one I had purchased was a store demo model I got at 50%. The replacement was solid--and I still have it although it is far from my primary AVR.

Thank you for your reply. I realize that this is an old receiver but I got it from a friend and would love to get it working correctly. It is a challenge but I think it is "over my Head". I have always liked Pioneer equipment from as far back as the 60's but it seems that everything that I buy from Pioneer has failed eventually. I have over a half dozen non functioning units from Pioneer. I was hoping to work backwards from the center speaker output and compare it with the unit that has power there, hoping to find where the bad component might be located. I am too ignorant to figure it out so I may just give up. Thank you for your help.
