How to set up NTFS5 encryption? And does it hurt performance?

I read somewhere that win NTFS5 you can set it up to encrypt all data so that even if someone takes data off your hard drive without your own Win2000 to decrypt the data for them it's useless to them.

Is this a standard feature of NTFS5.0 or do you have to set it up?
Also does it hurt performance noticably?

 

Right click on a file or folder. Under attributes->advanced choose "encrypt contents to secure data."

I don't know if you could, or want to, do it on an entire drive.

Yes, it will slow down access tremendously.

I probably won't even use it, I was just curious really.

That's cool I didn't know you could do it folder by folder.
