how to set up domain to serve out dialup internet?

im trying this out to see how it works:

my server (2000 server), has a modem, and connects to my ISP.
i want to have DHCP set up, so my other PC and laptop will be auto assinged an IP when they log onto the domain.
but, i also want them to be able to connect to the net with the dialup connection. (the server would be connected 24/7) and if it disconnects, for them to be able to reconnect it (like you can with ICS in windows XP)

how do i set this up? I know it must be done in RRAS, right?

2000 server has ICS also. That should do what your looking for, just enable "dial on demand" and you should be set. Unless of course I'm wrong, in which case disregard this.🙂

anyone?

i got DHCP and DNS set up
i just want to know how to setup my dialup so users can access it?? w/o having to put in the gateway, etc

not a problem, where are you getting hung up at? If you have yet to run the RRAS snap-in, go ahead and run it, and choose the NAT router option (i forget the exact text of the option, but it is apparent), it basically sets you through everything you need to do, which isnt much. And of course, as you know, you just set your gateway and all those options through dhcp scope options .. if you have a specific hang up, just let us know .. good luck ..

what problem are you having with the gateway? you could remake the scope, it will allow you to put the gateway in the wizard .. honestly though, if you just moved to static ip's you'd save yourself a lot of trouble ... good luck ..

i have the dialer all setup in RRAS, i can connect... but my pro machine cannot surf the net, what do i have to do in DHCP snapin to get it to serve out my dial up?? i dont have a static ip or DNS w/ my ISP

did you setup NAT in RRA ? you dont need static IP to do this, also is your pro box set to use your server as its Gateway?, go ahead and do this also.

Find out what your ISP's DNS server address is, make your DHCP scope again, and make your ISP's DNS the primary DNS, and make your Win2k Server's address the secondary DNS, I've had to do this before. You can find out this address by doing an 'ipconfig /all' on your Win2k Server box .. well hope this helps ..
