In Mac, scroll bars only appeared during the process of scrolling. However, with OS X, Apple modified the way these scroll bars are displayed in window while scrolling, allowing you to customize the functionality of scroll bar. Let’s have a look at how to set the scroll bars to display all the time in OS X.
Step 1
Click ‘System Preferences’
Go to the ‘Apple’ menu or the dock, and click ‘System Preferences’. As you launch it, a pane opens up at the centre of the screen with multiple applications. The ‘System Preferences’ helps you to customize your Mac based on your convenience and preference.

Step 2
Click ‘General’
Among the multiple options on the pane, select ‘General’. This will launch the settings panel for general preferences. It’s a window that displays the status of the various applications, that is, whether they are activated or deactivated.

Step 3
Select ‘Always’
Look for ‘Show Scroll Bars’ on the panel. There will be three options: ‘Automatically based on mouse or trackpad’, ‘When scrolling’, and ‘Always’. Select the box next to ‘Always’. Now, the scroll bars will display on the window all the time.

Following these quick steps, you can easily customize the way you want the scroll bars to work and display from the ‘General Settings’.
