Question How to set peer-to-peer and coexist with hub.

I want to speed up the bookkeeping PC's access to the data file on another PC. I swear every time we are forced into a QBs "upgrade" the software slows down! So I bought two 10 gig Nics and the proper cable. My concern: How do I make sure that the data file is accessed through the superfast Nics and not through the 1 gig, five PCs network hub? I have to keep the 1 gig connection to the hub so the bookkeeping PC will have internet access. Yes, LAN really is a bottleneck. If I move the file to the bookkeeping PC QBs is reasonably brisk. But then my QB on my PC would be slow.

draw the network including PCs (with adapters and which PC QB server is running on), wiring, switches and router (don't think you have hubs, it's all switches now) and it's IP ranges on a scratch paper, take a photo and upload it.

or if you only have 2 10G NICs on 2 different PC and connect them directly (along with existing 1G adapters)

Give 10G adapter a higher priority by giving it a lower number.

If you set 10Gb network cards with a different IP range from existing 1Gb IP range (without removing existing 1Gb network card), give both 10Gb cards static IP addresses and don't set a default gateway on them.
