How to send my electronic resume?

I found a job listing at my school that I want to apply for. The posting says for me to email a resume and cover letter. It doesn't specify whether they want plain text or if they want an attachment in a certain format. Right now I have my resume in .doc and HTML formats. It seems a bit cheesy for me to email and ask how they want it - especially since it'll waste time that I otherwise could have sent them my resume during.

So is there a recognized "standard" way of sending a resume if no format is specified?

I'd say send it as an attachment. Looks better than plain text within an email, IMHO.

Word doc seems to be a safe bet.

I've done the doc thing a time or two when I felt safe doing it, but I think a "platform neutral" format is best. I say plain text, or PDF

edit: I guess it depends on the job too. I'd been applying for unix sys admin and network tech type jobs so it was more important for me.

I think HTML is as safe as .doc if not safer, as long as it's nothing fancy, even older Word Processing proggies that open HTML won't have a problem with it.
