I wanna start gaming on this one but am unsure which video card I should get.

CPU = AMD phenom X4 9750
Mobo = 785GTM-E45 (MS-7549) from Micro-Star International
Memory = DDR2 - 4gb
graphis = ATI radeon HD 4200 <-- on the motherboard, but I want to buy a video card so its gamable

can anyone advice what I should do and which numbers should I try to match to look for combatipality?

Disable on board video, grab a nVidia 460 1GB for around 120 dollars,,, and you can have 1080p gaming high detail , 60fps ,,,,,,, it will handle BF3 easily and Crysis 2. Its good you already have a quad core,, so that 460 1GB is gonna love your CPU, and the 360 OCes very well if you want to dive into overclocking one day. Grab a EVGA 460 1GB from here

or go to local frys,,, gl

I think you are overestimating a gtx460 and old 9750 Phenom.

Thanks guys, I was recommended the 460 so I think Ill get it or something else in the area for around $100.

though I do have one question, the last time I kept up to date with technology was when I had a nvidia 8600 gt. but since than I havnt been keeping up with advancement of technology.. I know there were 9000s after the 8000 series. but than what are these video cards like?

those cards are horrible and not really meant for gaming. the gt220 is barely faster than 8600gt and the gt520 is even slower than 8600gt.

I don't get it. They are not even in the same league. The price tells the story, it's not 'around $100' at all. If you game stay away from the htpc cards.

Agreed. 460gtx probably overkill for that CPU unless OP plans to OC. Even then.....

My .02 adjusted for inflation

If you are not going to overclock get a 5670.

If you are going to OC get a gts 450 or a 6770.
