How to select a different soundcard?

As the topic says, I'm using Mandrake 10.1 on my system, I would like to use my soundcard rather than the onboard audio.

They are both detected, but I can't figure out where to tell it to use the card instead.

System:

Mandrake 10.1 (dualboot with XP)
Athlon XP1800 @ 2.09 Ghz
Asus A7N8X v2.0 mobo -- Nforce2 chipset
Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 PCI sound card

I have KDE and Gnome both installed...and I'm a Linux noob, so if you know the answer you can just reply and I'll eventually figure out how to implement it 😛

I assume that Mandrake uses ALSA, so you should be able to pick the card used by default. If not you should be able to specify that stuff in ~/.asoundrc : http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc/doc-php/asoundrc.php?module=Generic#defplug
