How to secure an Xbox in semi-public place?

We bought an Xbox at my office and they asked me to find a way to lock it down so nobody decides to take it home.. We have it on a Wheeled TV cart, and I am looking for ideas on how to lock down the system and controllers..

I found this item and it might work, and I could use u-bolts from Home depot on the controllers, but I was wondering if anyone had any better ideas..

-Thanks

No effing way!!!

"We" bought it as in your company sprang for it, or what? Also, how do they justify having a console at work?

Just curious.

If they want it bad enough, they will find a way to take it. The only way to stop someone would be to lock it in a case or something.. It _will_ get stolen.

put it in a cage that you can still hit power on and off and whatever... but too small for it to fit through... what about something like some fencing material ? the links are rather large... but obviously too small for the xbox to fit through... oh yeah, does it have to look respectable? haha...

we (as a company) are a tech company, and I work in a very tech dept. They justified it as relaxation..

And I don't think anyone will steal it if we lock it down, I mean this is an office.. It isn't outside or anything.. :)

Oh, and also remember there has to be a way to change games!!!! :)

Build a custom casing that has buttons on the front with lever arms that press the buttons on the XBox, and a space cut out for the CD drive to open, and holes for the cables to run out but not to be removed (may need to do some sort of bushing to make that work). Bolt the casing to the TV stand. Bolt a retaining arm over the TV on top and attached to the TV stand, so if they do want to take the XBox, they have to take the entire TV stand and TV, making it more likely they'll be caught.

Or.

Disassemble the XBox and mount it directly to the TV stand, and lock the casing up somewhere else (or make a custom case bolted to the TV stand). Sure it voids the warranty, but it makes it hard for anybody to fence it, and hard to take it home.

Or.

Locate an area of the XBox with a clear patch from top to bottom, and run a bolt straight through it. :)

Or.

Just bolt a cross over the top and onto the TV stand that bends down on all four sides of the casing, so it can't be removed.

As you can see, I like big, complicated solutions. :)

I thought about this, but it is amazingly hard to find a bolt that will fit..

oh will you take that sh1t somewhere else for crying out loud

the ps2 is like half the size of the xbox, yes, but they are both smaller than a stereo receiver

omg that is so annoying...if you dont buy the xbox because you think it is too big, you have issues

and, you moron, the ps2 is a rectangle

Hard to find a bolt that will fit? That's what drills are for. You get a couple of straight pieces of aluminum strip (thick strips), bend them into a squarish shape with tabs on each side, drill a hole on each tab, drill matching holes in the TV stand, run bolts through them. It's not absolute security, but they can't just pick it up and it'll take awhile to remove a minimum of two bolts. Add more bolts to make it take longer. :) Then bolt a cage over the underside, over the first bolts, so that they have to unbolt that to get at the main bolts.

And put some sort of alarm device underneath the XBox, so when the XBox is pressing down on it, the alarm is switched off, but if the weight is removed, the alarm goes off, even if it's just a small sound, enough to hear in another room. :)

I'm thinking the hardest part of securing this stuff is gonna be the peripheral devices, such as:

* The controllers
* The AV pack(s)
* The game discs themselves

That stuff will prolly walk before the console does.

glue it to the cart. Then lock the controllers and games and such in a case. An alternative to gluing would be to bent a rod around it lengthwise and widthwise and then bolt that to the tray. Or heck, just lock it all up at night. Make one person responsible for making sure it's put away and stuff, or make people sign off on it to use it.

Superglue all over the bottom...then set it in place. :)

Not sure about the accessories though. Hmmmm....

I wouldn't worry it would take a forklift to lift the xobx and get it out of the building anyway. :)

Another thought....

Get a display like they have in stores. (No...I don't know where to get one :))

You might be able to mod it to meet your needs. (i.e. changing games etc.)

Superglue a wire to the connectors of the controllers and superglue that to the superglue under the case. :)

Well I guess what I am thinking of doing right now is:

small u-bolts after the break away part on the controllers that screw into the cart, to keep them around.

I guess I can make my own straps out of metal and bend them till it fits.... I just figured there would be an easier solution, since the company is paying for it..

I think the small U clamps will work great for the controllers.
Maybe use the security cables similar to what is used on computers. Epoxy one end to the Xbox, the other to the tv stand. Bolting braces over the xbox in the criss cross fashion would be more secure.
Might want to look into those screws you will often see in bathroom stalls where they can be tightened with a flathead, but can only be untightened with a special tool.
Games could be managed by an admin assistant or stored in the software cabinet (if you have one).
