How to save on shipping at newegg.com?

for most online vendors, I would save on shipping if I buy multiple items... but it's not the case at newegg.com. For example if I buy 3 items that each has $6 FedEx shipping, total shipping would be $18... from store like buy.com, total shipping would be like $8...

Does anyone know how to save shipping cost at newegg.com?

Unless you buy from their scratch and dent section, you pay per item and it doesn't change. If you were buying a large quantity of one item, you could probably ask, but not for just a few assorted items.

some amt. of shipping charge is subtracted, if you buy

1. one big part.. such as case.. along w/ a small part.. such as CPU

or

2. spend certain amt of $$$ ..

i think #1 makes more sense.. but i'm not sure in anyway 😛

someone's gonna say it so it might as well be me...

This is not a Hot Deal and belongs in the Off Topic Forum.

I think that if you buy more than 3 items, the shipping drops. There's a thread about Newegg's powerDVD for something like $4 but shipping was $7. People were trying to figure out how to kill the shipping. Search for it.

The shipping starts dropping as soon as you start adding more than just a few items.. try a case, MB, CPU and RAM and the shipping drops in price marginally..

No, we aren't learning how to save money.... zxczxc is learning how to call and complain to customer support and ask for discounts, but this is not a HOT DEAL.

I side with alm4rr

I actually talked to a sales person before about this... and they said if you have more than 3 items, the cost will be calculated with the actual weight or something like that.

Edit: Though this is what we all should know, but because this is not a hot deal, so it shouldn't belong here.

I'll have my newegg order arrive end of this week, I paid $17 for a mobo/cpu/ram/vid card
I don't think it would cost them more than $10 to ship but even then, they're the best overall value of any online store

<< the best way to attack their policy is place order separately... it will cost them more. >>

So we love NewEgg and most people agree that they have the best overall prices around... so why do we want to "attack" their policy again???

NO - NO ASSAULT ON NEW EGG!!!

These guys consistently have the best prices, and are incredibly reasonable for shipping on most big-ticket items. OK - that IDE cable you're ordering is going to cost $7 to ship? Sure it will - since it's coming FedEx Saver, and will be cross-country in two-three days. Shipping isn't free you know - just for you to walk it over to the post office would cost about $5, and that's not counting your time in the equation.

NewEgg is incredibly fair when it comes to multiple item orders (I just ordered a motherboard, CPU, video card, DVD-RW disc and some cables - $20). They're also great in that they don't hide their shipping charges (spelled right out there for u - unlike some places, where you get hit with the sticker shock in the end). And finally - if you forget a thing or two - you can place the order the next day, knowing you won't get raped for shipping. That counts for 95% of their stuff.

No retailer is perfect - NewEgg's prices and service deserve to be respected. If you don't like their shipping policy, shop elsewhere.

Only order items that have free shipping.
I just ordered & received a case, m/b, cpu, psu and a shim. They charged me their stated price for shipping on everything - no discount. The $5 shim cost me $11 w/ shipping.

<< call them and they'll change it >>

No they won't. I just ordered a case, power supply and four separate cables, and called to try to get less on shipping. No deal. So I was paying full shipping on those little cables despite the huge shipping I was paying for the case.

I like newegg as well but they are going to get into it deep, if you've ever returned a product you will notice they only return the product cost and not the sales tax you paid on the item. They are keeping this extra cash which the IRS is going to be very interested in, this fact and their newly shady "refurbished" practices are going to be their downfall. Unfortunately.

Regarding referb items from newegg. I just recently purchased a PNY Geforce3 TI200 graphics card from them. It "worked" but had horrible problems loading up the nvidia drivers properly. It was RMA'ed the next day. The same day I got lucky and happend to stumble upon a referb gainworld geforce3 ti200 128mb vga card. It arrived the next day, installed it, and it works perfactly. It even came in a retail box with the cable and driver cd.

So far my experience with newegg on referb items is mixed... but I that dosn't mean I would stop shopping from them in general.

Funny that you ask this, yesterday i just wrote to newegg about the shipping problem. I hope they listen to us if more people write to them about this. They have a new section where you can give them opinions. Give Newegg the AT effect 🙂

All you people complaining about paying shipping costs need to look at PRICEWATCH more. Newegg is consistent with their service,
their shipping costs are more than fair!
To ship a motherboard on average priority mail with FREE delivery confirmation I pay generally around 9-10.00..
Newegg's margin is SMALL at that. If you want to complain please PLEASE do your research before you go posting because
YOU obviously haven't bought from smaller vendors before that charge HIGH shipping like on PW.
And yes this does NOT belong here.

😉

FedEX Shipping is worth it.Fast as lightning. My packages are never beat to hell-unlike UPS where 7 out of ten looked like they have been kicked and kicked hard.

I learned (the hard way) that since you are charged individually for shipping anyway, you are better off ordering individually. I've only ordered from them once, but had 3 items in the order. I had a problem and had to cancel BUT:

-newegg had "already shipped" (actually, the order was in different boxes, one of which was packed and in THEIR shipping shed (...for another 12 hours before the carrier picked it up)) and therefore "couldn't change anything".

-the other parts were still sitting cozily on their respective newegg shelves. But since they were "in the same order" , "no changes could be made". (read 15% re-stocking fee...) and those parts were also doomed to be eventually woken up, dusted off, and packed in a box for a trip ending up back at newegg before they could be restored to their snooze.

Had I ordered separately, the shippingwould have been exactly the same, but the restocking fee would only have applied to the first "already shipped" item. (I do have trouble accepting that label for an item that continued to sit on their dock for another 12 hours before the shipping agent ever saw it) Therefore, since they are going to charge you the same either way, you're better off making each item an individual order to give yourself that much more flexibility if something comes up!
