Hi, there -

just got a new alpha pal6035. The thermal interface seems to need some work - it's quite rough in my opinion. Also have several old heasinks - globalwin and avvid using thermal pad. Since got arctic silver in hand, would like to do some experiments. Having a couple problems though: the thermal pads are VERY tough to scrap off and clean up; the thermal interface are too rough to use w/o sanding work. I am green to this, would like to ask for you old-salt's expertise on the materials i should use and the detailed procedure to go by. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I don't remember the exact thread, but if you use the search function and search by username for cautery you will find some VERY detailed and informative directions. He is the man when it comes to thermal interfaces and it helped me a lot when I built my computer. Let me know if you need the links to the threads and I can get them to you in the afternoon (US EST).

Thank you. I found the thread and print out some pages. But most of them seem a bit off the topic. It's talking most about the arctic silver and experiments to prove the efficiency of it. I don't care much about the quantitative analysis of the academic style study. i had enough of those and don't have any equipments for it. I have given credit to arctic silver paste already. Still need some guidance on sanding the heatsinks. I won't be lapping those socket cpus to death. Looking forward to further feedbacks. I'd appreciate your precious help.

Thanks

There should have been one about lapping the heatsink too.....did you try searching the archives? I'll look for it too and I'll post it if I find it.
