How to safely switch from AHCI to IDE

Hi,

I have a brand new, COREi7 with MSI Mobo PC built and burned in by the pros at iBuyPower. I did not order it with a HD, however, as I wanted to install my own SSD with Windows 7. However, after installing Win7 it seems the boot/startup times are 5-10 minutes, before Mobo even gets to Win7 boot sequence. I'm guessing this is because HCI is used and is in discovery of any RAID drives. I'm not planning on using RAID anytime soon, and would like to improve boot time. So, I'm assuming I should disable AHCI and switch to IDE for my OCZ SSD drive. Problem is, I read that the IDE drivers that it will use once AHCI is disabled, might themselves not yet be enabled. So, I'm asking for advice and guidance on how to safely switch my Win7 on SSd instal over to using IDE instead of AHCI.

Thanks.

Which OCZ drive did you purchase? I just installed Win7 on my new vertex drive following the instructions on OCZ's forums. Most things I read say to install in IDE mode then switch to AHCI for best performance. What is taking a long time, post or Windows 7 booting?

You're going to want AHCI enabled. The only time you should turn it off is if you're having issues getting windows installed.

Your RAID chip should not be taking that long to timeout, but you'll save a few seconds by disabling it. Also, enable fast-startup (disable memory checking). The only time I get excessively long startups are when certain USB devices are plugged in that mess up the BIOS autodetect.
