What are some ways to run the time demo or FPS tests from the game consoles????
I want to compare my systems, TNT2 verses DDR
on PIII 450mhz.

Q3: Hit tilde (~) to bring down the console, type:

timedemo 1
demo [nameOfDemoHere]

UT: I think you just type timedemo 1 at the console, not sure though.

HL: Hmmm, check www.cgw.com for info on how they run their tests.

OK, perhaps I'm stupid, I'll admit it, but do I start a single player game, multiplayer or click on demo. I pulled down the console while a game was running and typed in the timedemo1 hit enter, nothing changed, then triedtimedemo1 enter demodemo001 enter them tried timedemo1demodemo001 still nothing???????
can some break it down to a step by step simple instruction for a dummy like me, thanks

From the main menu:

1. Hit "~" to bring down the console.
2. Type "timedemo 1"
3. Type "demo demo001" (or "demo demo002", etc.)
4. When the demo is done, you'll be back at the main menu. Hit "~" to see your average FPS.

thanks pete,
I'll try it when I get home from work,
I have 4 450 mhz systems , on different MB/HD/video setups. two TNT2,one geforce DDR, one TNT1,one msi6163 (bx chipset). one ax 63pro (via 133),one scsi drive dell(precision 410),one compaq deskpro(bx chipset), wanna see the difference, because I can't tell just by playing. (the TNT1 sometimes hesitates).

This is how you do it:

From the main menu, hit the '~' key, then type:

\timedemo 1 [hit enter]
\demo demo001 [hit enter]

The demo will then run at an accelerated speed. When it is finished, you will be returned to the main menu. Simply hit the '~' key again (to the left of '1' on the keyboard), and the console will come up, with your FPS score.

I only posted this because I *think* you have to have the backslashes in ;)
