How to run IDE w/SATA

I have a spare IDE HD I'd like to use for storage. Here's my problem:

Mobo: chaintech VNF3-250
Main HDD: Sata
want to use secondary IDE for storage: WD2000JB

Basically when I plug in the 2nd hard drive, my computer starts to boot and always gets stuck at "verifying DMI pool data..."

I've tried switching all the BIOS boot sequences and jumper settings on the IDE HDD. But there is no choice in my BIOS to boot from the SATA HDD first (or I can't find that choice).

The IDE HDD is automatically recognized as HDD0 (Hard Drive 0) by my BIOS and it always seems to want to boot from that drive or maybe isn't detecting anything, I don't know.

I've spent about 4 hours trying to mess with all the settings, reformatting the IDE HDD trying to debug it. Can anyone help me out?

If the new drive is on a data cable by itself, begin by shutting down the computer, then remove the jumper cap from the WD's jumper pins and just leave it off. That sets it to the special Single Master setting (this is specific to WD drives btw) and may overcome your stall situation.

There should be an option in the bios. You must be missing something. There is usually an area which allows you to pick the boot priority of your hard drives. You would put the sata drive on top. I've never seen a bios that didn't have this so keep looking.

Just wanted to add that your mobo may see the SATA interface as an add in card. MY DFI and ABIT were both like that. Search for that option and see how it goes.
