How to run DELL Laptop in India from Wall Socket???

I was hoping someone could answer this for me. I purchased a DELL I4K during that MSN Deal...(luckily received my rebate), and I will be traveling to India in a week. The AC adapter it came with says that it can handle 100-240V and since INDIA runs on 220, it seems as if this adapter would suffice. Can anyone else give me some feedback on what I need so I can run the laptop from a wall socket in India? Do I just need the wall socket adapter or do I need an entirely new voltage converter? Any and all responses will be appreciated. Im running out of time. Thanks///

Online isnt an issue. Just to run it. Also do I need to take into account the frequency in India? Thanks.

Yup, the laptop will work of course. I used my Toshiba laptop in Hong Kong w/ no problems, you just need to have the wall socket adapter, unless u go to a place with sockets like the US.

Of course the problem in India is the fluctuation in current. Most people with PCs use surge protectors or UPSs.

Got anything on that laptop that you wouldnt want anyone else to see? might want to delete anything that could get you in trouble if the laptop is subject to inspection.

Ermm I doubt that will happen :) Unless of course you work for the CIA. DAMN SPIES! ;)

At most they will want to fill the details of your laptop on your passport so you dont go and try to sell it. (old tax rates for imported goods where 100%) I believe current taxes on computers are about 2-4%.

Make sure you got the right plug for the indian sockets ( I had took a wrong type with me - by accident) and I had to search in Bangalore for a converter.. finally found a spike strip with a multi prong (can accept all known standards of plugs)..

As for power its cycles at 50Hz.. which is actually like 48Hz..

anycase... just take a spike strip and converter from radio shack.. they will carry it.

Here is some info straight from Bombay - India....... We have 230v 50Hz in Bombay and the line is very steady in this city. But in other parts of India the voltage can be quite unsteady and you would be better of with a UPS. (I hate to say this - but last night we had a power breakdown for half an hour - after many months). We get adapters for all types of plugs in Bombay (which is the main centre for computer hardware in India) but I cannot be sure about these being available in smaller towns.

Dell have a prescence in India and they have been advertising laptops in the local newspapers so you should get support from them in case the need arises via their toll free phone number.

In case you need any more info leave me a private message in this forum.
