How to rip to FLAC

EAC can be set up to rip straight to flac, and in that case the tags will be taken care of for you.

you can also use the mareo plugin to rip to multiple formats at once from EAC

I used Cdex with this commandline for FLAC:
-8 -m -M -e -p %1 -V -f --replay-gain -T Artist="%a" -T Album="%b" -T Title="%t" -T Date="%y" -T Genre="%g" -T Tracknumber="%tn" -o "%2"

High compression, mid-side coding, adaptive mid-side, exhaustive model search, Replaygain, force overwrite of target files, and tagged.

That's what I did for my collection. About 10 minutes per CD total on my pokey 1.3 GHz Tualatin Celeron music server. Space used was about 30 GB per 100 CDs.

Since no one mentioned it, EAC = Exact Audio Copy
