Hello,

Is there an easy, free way to create mp3 files from a dvd? Not rip the entire dvd into one big mp3 file, but be able to create mp3s from different sections of the dvd.

Thanks in advance.

Thank you. Yes, it is free, but it appears it rips mp3 from cds only. Doesn't say dvd or vob files. I need to look more into it

DVD Audio Extractor is the best windows tool I've found for extracting audio tracks from a DVD:
http://www.dvdae.com/

It will allow you to rip straight in the format on the DVD or transcode it to other formats such as FLAC/vorbis/mp3. It can break up into separate files by chapter or leave it as one contiguous file for a title.

Were I to do it I'd probably use a ~$18 program I've had for over ten years, High Criteria's Total Recorder Standard Edition. I get free updates whenever they come out. Their support is excellent and the application works great. To rip a DVD I think I'd have to play it in real time and have the program grab the audio into whatever format I'd like. For MP3's I use the LAME encoder, a free download.

I use the program mostly for scheduled recordings of FM radio, but have often used it to rip sound coming through the computer. The pro version costs around 2x as much and has various enhancements.
