how to reverse the direction of a motor?

I'm doing a physics project and the motor has to be able to let an object down as well as bring it back up. I have a simple motor and was wondering if anyone here knew how to make the motor go in the opposite direction?

Instead of connecting the positive node of the battery with the positive node of the motor and the negative with the negative, connect the positive node of the battery with the negative node of the motor, and the negative with the positive.

wow this is so simple he does not get it? you put the red wire to the black post and the black wire to the red post .. good luck man.

Just play with the motor and batteries for 5 minutes and you should be able to figure it out...

DC motor: reverse the polarity
three phase motor: swap two of the leads.

FYI -- this will damage a lot of motors, so don't do this on critical equipment...
Tas.
