If that doesn't work. do a search for user.da* and system.da*. I made the mistake of tweeking something I shouldn't have in the registry and had to restore. user.dat and system.dat are the two files that your registry is composed of. older versions are marked user.da0, user.da1, ...same with system.dat. Rename one of the .da# for both the user.dat and the system.dat. I'm not sure if this will work for 98, but it did for 95.
