Hi folks,

i just installed two Seagate 1TB HDD's in my XP desktop and one of them is showing a total area of 31MB. I found on another string that this can be caused by the host protected area on the HDD.

it mentioned that once the HPA was reset and a partition created, the full capacity of the HDD was returned.

I can't find anywhere how to perform this reset of the host protected area. Does anyone know?

thanks.

The only way to change the size of the HPA is to send specific ATA commands directly to the drive so if that really happened to your drive you've got bigger things to worry about.
