um your board manufacturer and model would probably help.
actually why don't you just google it for the online manual? all mobo mfr have their manuals available online.

I concur with mordantmonkey but if you want to go the dumb route (like I have to since my mobo is jumper challenged), just remove the battery for awhile after powered off (to be extree certain, I like to switch off the PSU, then depress the main power button to discharge any reserve in the capacitors).

Hi, Check your manual or maker for the pin numbers, but you just move the jumper over one pin, wait a sec and move it back. If removing the battery, you may have to leave it out a couple of hours to allow the capacitors in the circuit to disharge. AC should be off for both methods. I doubt that pressing the power button does anything as it has absolutely nothing to do with the CMOS. Luck, Jim

A couple hours seems extreme. Gigabyte advises 30 seconds. Whether or not discharging remaining power (as evidenced by a fan jerking or LED going out) actually ensures erasing CMOS when followed by the jumper or battery removal, I don't know, but obviously it is safer to do so when moving parts with electrical contacts (battery, DIMMs, cards, &c.)

Hi, The designer of the MB decides how much filter capactor to put in the circuit. The idea is to keep your BIOS SETUP with out the battery for long enough for you to get a new batt and get it back onto the MB. It could well vary from a few minutes up to several hours. Electronic engineers also do their own thing. Jim

Indubitability. Perhaps when a clear jumper is included there is that luxury to retain the memory longer when the battery is removed.
