I'm in a situation where I want to make a move to Georgia by this summer. My goal is to get into Georgia Tech evening MBA program, and make myself more marketable for a career change.

The problem is that I dont know how to tell my current boss. The place that I work for has local offices all over the U.S, so people do make internal transfers when they are wanting to move out of state(for personal reasons. i.e, spouse moving, family sickness, etc etc).

How is the best way to tell my boss? If I tell him that the reason I want to move is to pursue an MBA program, I think it becomes obvious that I am planning to make a career change. If he knows that I'm making a career change, maybe the new office wont want me.

The place I work for doesn't really value the MBA degree( i.e, promotions aren't based on it).

Another issue is that I recently got promoted 6 months ago, and the standard rule is that you have to be in that position for 18 months before you are allowed to move.

Where are you now and why is it so critically important to go to Georgia Tech, when other options may not have as high a price with your current job situation

Just tell him it for personal reasons or if your in the north, say you always wanted to live some where warmer, or that you've always loved Georgia. I wouldn't go into the MBA thing with him.
