This is my brothers computer, he has a Slot A Asus K7M w/750 Tbird and everyhting works great until he buys an Audigy 2 Platinum and it won't get through the driver install without locking up.

I have tried everything I can think of (I know the card works) and the only thing I can come up with is that the Audigy is conflicting with the motherboard somehow?

So my question is........"How can I prepare the OS to recieve another motherboard? Do I have to reset the HAL to default settings? (just a guess) or am I doomed to another MB/Proceesor AND a WinXP reload?"

He will NOT give up his new soundcard (they are soooo coool)

Thanks.-Rob

You cannot use the latest drivers with the Audigy and XP if SP1 is installed.....you have to use the ones that were originally released for the Audigy when the card first hit the market.....updated drivers are definitely not compatible with SP1...Creative told me this directly so I am not guessing here.....this might help your problem.

He has SP1 installed but he is using the original driver disk that came with the Audigy, I checked the Creative site and it show that there are no updated drivers for the Audigy 2 for XP.

Thanks for the heads up on the FAQ's.

This is no ordinary soundcard my friend, this is as close as you can get to studio quality connection. My brother has been in bands since he was 14, he's 37 now and sick of taking his digital audio from 8 track to analog input to play with on Cakewalk.

He bought an AOpen 850-D with digital/optical daughter card and it never worked, turns out that it works for NOBODY (nice work AOpen) but it looks cool. So he plunks down a couple hundie for the top of the line card and nada. :|

Here is an idea I got in a newsletter. I haven't tried it so use at your own risk.

(1) In the System Control Panel, go to Hardware Profiles.
(2) If "Original Configuration" is listed, rename it to "First One"
(3) If there are any others (hardware profiles) listed, rename those to "Second One", "Third One", etc... (Make a note as you go!)
(4) If there was only one configuration listed, copy the one now called "First One" and call it "Second One".
(5) Shut down, install the new mobo and restart the computer.
(6) When asked which hardware configuration to use, select the last one - "None of the above."
(7) When Windows finishes its messing about you'll end up with a new hardware configuration entry called "Original Configuration".
(8) If you need to go back to the old setup, you still can.
(9) Once you're happy with the new set up, delete the old hardware configurations.
