Passport Info

I have lost my passport somewhere in my house and cannot find it but it was not stolen. All I have is my birth certificate, driver's license and social security card. Does it sound like I can file to get a replacement Passport with expedited 2 week service?

Has anyone ever had their Passport replaced as a result of lost/stolen? If so, how did the process go and what was the turn around time?

Please reply with any suggestions you have, thanks.

Sad thing is I thought you were referring to a Microsoft Passport when I read the title...what is this world coming to?

Sorry Ross, I shall fail you this time. I have never evenhad a passport, so I have no idea. Sounds like you would have enough though, but again, I do not know. :(

Thanks guys. Yeah there's a local Portland post office which does this passport stuff but I was hoping to get an answer tonight and maybe some input from others who have had their lost passports replaced.

Anyone else?

Only happened in a foreign country.. in that case we went to the US consulate.

IN this case.. go to the US Post office.. and ask. you should be able to get it back in 3 or 4 days... faster if needed.

3 or 4 days would be so nice but I think it's going to be 2 weeks. It also sucks that you can't call anyone at the Passport office because they have a fee based system either $1.05 per minute of $4.95 per call. Since I'll be loaded with hot questions and a heavy husky voice (hey it is a 900 number) I think I'll do the $4.95 option.

As long as you've had a legal passport before and you can prove your identity without a doubt, then you can get expedited service if you're willing to pay. If you live close enough to one of the main passport processing centers, you may even be able to get it same day (don't quote me on this part). Otherwise, it's on the order of 1-2 weeks if done through a county clerk or passport-accepting post office.

I haven't lost a passport but I was at the county clerk office within the past week.

don't know where you live but goto the main postoffice for your area if possible, don't deal w/ the dinky local ones.

oh and have fun dealing w/ gov't workers :D

RossMan.. when we lost it in an another country.. US consulate gave it to us in 24 hrs.

ofcoruse it helps to have some sort of id.. or someone with information regarding your prior passport.

That is why, whereeven anybody flies in my family they give a copy of their latest personal info to someone else in teh famliy. I did that when I went to India. this personal info contains stuff like passport number, social security number, credit cards with access codes, bank stuff.. etc etc.

that happened to me...i "lost" my passport once. just go down to the post office and apply for another passport. they'll tell ya that u already applied for one, and let em know you lost it. your old one will be invalid or something, and itll take a few weeks.

I knew a couple people that needed this done. You can get expedited passport service from the local post office. Jsut an additional fee. If you want to do it in person, you can go to your local fed building and do it there.

But yeah you do need to bring identification that it is in fact you. An old passport is the best way to do it.

Not a problem--this happened with my daughter's.
But we were not crunched for time, so we did not do the expedited thing.
*If* I remember, the expedited locations were Chicago and Houston (or somewhere in Dubyaland).

mackstann - Thanks anyways :)

Jfur - Cool, thanks. It looks a little pricey but just might work out, I'll check it out later.
