I am sure many of you know one of the problems with Firebird/Phoenix is that if the bookmark is corrupted (by random it seems), the browser will crash and/or refuse to open.

Well that's exactly what happened to me and I lost about 50k of bookmarks. My last backup file is substantially smaller.

So I was wondering if anyone knew how to fix this? That is, repair the corrupted bookmark file.

The bookmark file is just an HTML file in your Mozilla profile. Open the HTML file and see what's wrong.

Also, if you're using Windows, try importing the bookmarks into MSIE first and then exporting them again. Maybe IE can handle damaged bookmark files.
In IE, to go File -> Import and Export -> Import Favorites. Import the HTML file from your Mozilla directory. After you import it, go back and Export Favorites to a new HTML file.
Then go into Mozilla and import the new HTML file from your bookmark manager.

Yes I know what the bookmark file is.

It is totally corrupted. Browsers can't handle it. Frontpage can't. Plaintext Notepad can't either.

If it won't open in notepad how do you expect anything to parse it?

For the record I've never seen Mozilla kill it's bookmark file. Is it the OS or mozilla crashing?

I don't know. I was just trying to provide information. As far as I know, Mozilla, Netscape, Firebird etc are different animals. Do you even use Firebird? Use it long enough and you can see your bookmarks disappear too. I am not the only one with this problem.

They're sort of different animals, more like different types of the same animal like a lion and a tiger =)

I use Galeon mostly, but I have firebird on my notebook. I don't generally keep bookmarks but I'll make a few and let you know if they disappear =)

I've been using Firebird for about 3 months now without problems with my bookmarks. I don't use them that often, but I do keep a good amount of sites bookmarked.

Firebird still has a good amount of little bugs in it though. A lot of them have to do with the bookmarks too. I can't wait for 0.7, but seeing as the nightlies haven't really fixed anything (they've actually broken the back button in the recent nightlies), I don't think it'll be out anytime soon.
