Sounds like a really elementary question right, but for some reason I'm having trouble removing the thermalright sk6 heatsink that I have on my cpu. I've never removed one because this is the first computer I've built. I want to take it off temporarily so I can put some thermal grease on my cpu. It has a metal clamp that runs down the middle of it (metal clamp has a bent design in the middle of itself). There's some plastic grooves on the side too, but I tried a lot of things and I want to take this out without breaking it. Is there an easy way to remove it? Thanks.

I can move it a little by pushing down on one side pretty hard, but I can't push the metal clamp outward away from the heatsink so that it would not catch on, on it's way up. It keeps on hooking back on, on the way up.

use another screw driver or needle nose pliers to pry or pull the clip away from the hook as your are pushing down on it. I think thermal grease may melt though, you may want artic silver or something.

If anybody knows, does thermal grease work ok on a really hot chip like a Tbird@1.5 or higher?

that's not an elementary question

in my opinion, the sk6 has the worst clip to remove. you have to use a screw driver, preferably one of those jeweler ones. and good luck.

Thanks for the help guys, I got it off and was finally able to put some thermal grease on. Now, I'm having another more serious problem though, but I doubt it's related to cpu...

I'm running windows xp pro...haven't had any problems really. Today, I installed the pci card that has the two extra usb slots. It came with my epox 8k7a motherboard. I know I installed it right because I looked at the instruction manual. When my computer was on, I hooked up my scanner to one of the new usb ports, and it wouldn't recognize the scanner because it said I should check my usb connection. So, I restarted my computer (figuring that maybe it just needed a restart). While, it was restarting I noticed that my scanner's power wasn't plugged in, so I plugged it in while the computer was restarting. Windows XP Pro didn't boot up completely. Instead a blue screen came up with that error...UNMOUNTABLE VOLUME. Have any ideas? I can't get into windows. Please help!
