How to remove rust effectively??

I have a Titleist Scotty Cameron putter that had an oil can finish on it until I lost the head cover and it rusted. I would like to know the most effective way of removing the rust and the remaining finish as well if possible. I dont think they make the oil can finish putters anymore but they still use the oil can design on the Vokey Wedges so that should give you an idea of what Im working with prior to the rust. Thanks for the ideas.
