How to remove residue sticker?

How can I remove the residue from a sticker that was on one of my golf clubs on the shaft, tried best as I could to peel it without leaving the stickyness behind, but no go.

1) hairdryer (warms up the glue/sticky)
2) razor/knive (sharp edge to clean it off)

your best bet is WD40.
and wipe wd40 off as best as you can with soap and water.
