how to remove picture at boot

Hi, I've got a freind who has a picture that shows up on his computer when the system boots, just before the OS loads up. I've seen these these before on other computers. I'm wondering if anyone can tell me how to remove or change this picture.

Unfortunately, i do not know the OS, but I would assume that it is Windows 98 or ME. I don't know that this really matters though, because I suspect that its something at the BIOS level, not necc. at the OS level. I would appreciate any pointers.

if it is win 9x,
START
RUN
type MSCONFIG
go through the win.ini, startup, autoexec.bat and see if there is anything that looks like it is to do with your pictures. Use with caution.

It sounds as if it is the splash screen that some manifactgures put into the BIOS like Tiger or Biostar.
Just go into the BIOS and disable full boot screen.
Nleep

if I remember I'll look up the file, you can delete a file that contains the splash screen for win9x and a backup copy of the original will take it's place, this is almost always caused by a flakey theme. (I just don't remember the file offhand, lmk what version os you actually have.

edit: for windows 95/98, and maybe ME(not entirely sure on ME) delete the file logo.sys (just search your hard drive for it. it's actually a modified bitmap file (you can open it with paint to make sure you are deleting the right file, it will be the current splash screen.) windows has a compressed backup file in the win.exe core file that will automatically copy a new one when it detects it no longer exists on your next re-start. If memory serves me right, this file is either in the windows\system or windows\system32 directory, but It's been a while since I've had to troubleshoot any 9x boxes.

logo.sys is the file you are talking about in 9x logow.sys also controlls the shut down screen. Io.sys contains a backup of the logo so if you mess up logo.sys or delete it, no problem because io.sys will just load the backup. Don't delete io.sys however heh. I think the path is c:\windows\logo.sys, but it may just be c:\logo.sys just do a search if you can't find it, make sure to deselect hide system files.

It you are talking about the BIOS splash screen, then just go into the bios and disable 'silent boot' or whatever its called.
