I just ordered a soltek nv400 and the heatsink that comes on it's northbridge is pretty wimpy. I'll end up OC'ing it so I was wondering how is the best and least dangerous way to remove it, and then is there a certain good cooler to put on it?

Thanks!

also what is the best thermal adhesive?

Ahhh I see, so it wont be attached with a thermal adhesive then?

So how should I attach one should I use a thermal adhesive?

I have an old heatsink / fan combo from I think a P3 would that cool it well? It may be a bit bigger than the chip but is that ok? as long as it fits in there?

If it fits you can use it. I followed Insane3d's lead and put a 60mm cpu heatsink on mine. Since it's not designed to be a chipset cooler, there are no pins to fasten it to the motherboard. I used AS thermal adhesive.

Once you have gotten that on there, how easily does it come off?

also, will that p3 cooler work well? its black, no copper or anything, or is buying a specific chipset cooler better?

Id rather try saving money and using what I have

On another note, would it be possible to cut up old heatsinks to make ram sinks?

If you use the "full-strength" it probably won't come off w/o ruining the chip.
Check out the AS homepage for instructions on "cutting" the adhesive w/ regular AS so you'll be able to remove it.

OK, thanks I will definitley look into it. Do you know if maybe there is another alternative to something like that? Something a little less permanent?

Less permanent = drill holes in the heatsink and bolt it on. Or tap the holes as well and just screw it on. Takes more time than adhesive, but its fun and you'll thank yourself when you need to remove it.
