How to remove files from startup?

I have Windows 2000, and just installed a SB Audigy. Unfortunately, when I installed the drivers, along with a bunch of software, some of that software loads automatically at start-up. I have cleared out the Start-up folder in the "Start" box, but the problem persists.

I remember hearing about some files or settings I can adjust to get rid of these annoying start-ups. Can anybody help me out with the process?

Thanks alot.

You can use the MSCONFIG.EXE that comes with Windows XP or 98.
Download the XP one (64K) off the internet, or copy one to a disk from a system currently running either OS.

The XP version of msconfig also lets you change the services and BOOT.INI file as well.

Hey guys, I downloaded Start-Up Controller from TheOmegaCode's FAQ link. Worked like a charm.

Thanks for the help. Beer is on the house.

check these locations in regedit:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Those registry keys are mentioned in the Anandtech FAQ...

There is a little free program, called StartUp. It lets you see and manage all the entries in the Win98, Win2000, and WinXP Startup Process. The nice thing about it, you can Check or Uncheck entries without Installing or Uninstalling.

StartUP Page.

Dear lord, the registry entries and startupCPL are both in the FAQ that I linked. He even mentioned that he downloaded it!
