I am repainting a older wicker TV cabinet. It has 2 drawers all the way across the bottom. There are 2 rows of wicker (one under each drawer) that are simply wrapped around and around with wicker. I repaired a couple of places with small nails. But I noticed the whole rows of wicker were dried out and pretty loose. Wetting them did not help. When they dried, they were still loose and brittle. I panicked, and starting painting plain latex Elmer's glue on the 2 rows with a brush. When it dried, I added one coat of Zinsser's Bullseye 1-2-3 primer. When it dried, the primer crackled. I need to put two more coats of a latex gloss paint over the Bullseye.

I need to remove both the paint and the glue. I have tried Goo Gone, hot water, and Kleen Strip spray furniture refinisher (foam so it sticks to the surface). I don't know what has changed about Goo Gone, but I cannot get it to work on anything, even stickers. Didn't it use to be Goo-Be-Gone? It just doesn't do anything, especially on this paint and/or glue combo. I have used the Kleen Strip 3 times, and the paint is slowly coming off, but not real well. I have used a refinisher cleaner on a small primer-free area, and I can still feel the sticky glue. Does anyone know how I can get the glue off? Laying rags soaked in very hot water for a while has not helped.

Or is there maybe a paint that can cover all this mess up, so I can start over?
