How to remove corrupted iPhone apps?

I tried to do an "Update All" on my iPhone applications, but the update failed and left me with a bunch of greyed out "Loading.." application icons where my apps used to be. I can't remove them like I can with working iPhone applications (no 'x' icons on them when you press and hold the screen), and trying to re-run the update causes the App Store to crash.

What's the best way to clean this up?

You may need to just restore the OS. You should have a backup of your phone from the last time you synced in iTunes.

remove them from the phone directly in iTunes and try re syncing? If you don't know how to do this, plug in iPhone, go to it in iTunes select the application tab and uncheck them out, sync from that screen & when it's done try re-checking them and re syncing again. Worth a shot if you haven't tried it.
