i don't like that they cut away. How do we know he didn't replace the CD with a new one?

Just the Devil's Advocate skepticism in me.

Post back results please.

Theoretically this would work. You can use the same principle to make a pop can into a fire starter by polishing it with chocolate as seen Here, so I would assume it would work on a CD with a banana as well. But you know what happens when you assume....

no info on how ripe the banana should be. Everyone knows that the starch content of the banana and enzyme concentration goes down as the banana ripens, so that is something that would have to be controlled.

Anything that can chemically etch polycarbonate should do the trick. Whether or not banana enzyme can do this, or glass cleaner (most likely the culprit) I'm not certain. Of course if the scratches go through the polycarbonate and mess up the pits, the CD is FUBAR.

Also, simple polishing usually fixes minor scratches, you just have to match the index of refraction all across the surface as best as possible. The pits are much closer to the label side of the CD actually, so if you scratch the label side, you are more apt to cause the CD to be non-functional.

I saw this a few weeks ago, and was actually in the process of backing up quite a few CD's of mine. One was not badly scratched, but I kept getting errors in EAC to the point where track 5 could not be copied correctly. I decided to give this banana method a try and after it ripped perfectly fine.

With a CD that is badly scratched it's probably not going to do much though, this one really wasn't scratched at all.

I was distracted by the dude's budding breasts and desperate need of a manicure. Plus it was weird how he pawed at the scratches with his fingers. Also, that cloth was clearly not cotton as suggested but microfiber. Good quality microfiber will not scratch but cotton will.
In any case, it is common knowledge that wiping should be done radially to minimize the most harmful scratches. Finally, if the window cleaner was just to remove the banana residue as claimed then it makes little sense as mild soap and warm water would be ideal, even more readily available and not risk damage. There are banana-extract based general purpose cleaners which do work well (on fabric 'n' such) but I am dubious of the effect of raw banana on plastic. More likely the alcohol or ammonia in the glass cleaner "melted" the plastic a bit (in lieu of other shens).
