how to remove annoying side-banner from msn main screen?

everytime it starts up i manually remove all the links and it disappears...any permanent solutions/reghacks?

If the banner is being loaded from a unique server, you should be able to block it using a single line added to your hosts file. Like this:

127.0.0.1 ads.microsoft.com

fine maybe i was misleading you by saying banner but its not really a banner, strictly speaking i dont think.

i suppose you'd actually have to have msn to know what i'm on about...

I don't want to sound sarcastic but have you considered switching to an ISP a little less like AOL?

Are you using the "MSN" browser?

Can you use a different one (IE, NS 6x, Opera 6.x, Mozilla 1.x) that may not behave the same way?

ahem im talkin about msn messenger dude wtf... i dont use msn internet access or aol or whatnot...

you never said it was messenger. People may have assumed that you meant the MSN browser...

and do you mean by a side banner there is no side banners in msn mssg, there's one at the bottom. Are you talking about the Tools Show Tabs ?

my bad...

im talking about the one on the left side, just by my contact list that has 2 buttons:


- Microsoft .NET Alerts
- MSN News

I can chose to hide them by right clicking them and chosing from a drop-down list but everytime i restart msn messenger they reapper... very annoying... :(

ok now I get it. just open your msn and choose Tools Show Tabs and deselect -Microsoft .NET Alerts - MSN News

but will this stop em from showing after i start msn again?

<-- has hotmail open so cant really test right now...

crap... it didnt work... one of them came back up when i closed and restarted msn...

there MUST be a registry setting that i can modify to get rid of this...

I have it on 3 computers and they never came back... what version of msn do you have I have 4.6.0082
