I recently bought a new heatsink for my P3 1gig cpu and wanted to replace the old intel heatsink that came with the cpu when i bought it. However, when i tried to remove the old heatsink from the cpu, it wouldn't come off. I guess the thermal pad melted onto the cpu core. Is there anyways to remove the old heatsink? Want to do it in the safest possible way, cause still trying to save enough money for an athlon xp. Thanks for any suggestions.

Once u opened the HSF clip...just pull the HSF off the CPU. U should now see some pink coloured melted thermal pad on both the CPU & the HSF.

Just use some achohol to clean it. U r now ready to put in the new HSF.

Thanks for the tip. Sounds so simple, but will it damamge my cpu core? because i tried to apply a little force earlier and it seems to be pretty tough.

Make sure you don't cut your CPU. ;)

Just turn the system on and run the Prime95 toture test or any other high CPU utilizing proggie for 5 minutes then immediately turn the system off and remove the heatsink, once heated up they tend to come off fairly easily in my experience.
