How to remove an athlon SLOT A heatsink?

Ive got a slot A athlons heatsink here that needs to come off, these things WERE designed to be removable right?

Well its not so much the heatsink as the fan that craped out, but when I ordered a new one it came with a heatsink so I figured what the hey, why not? (Plus I get the impression the new fans might be a pain to get mounted on the old heatsink.

Anyways I found these black tab type things on the side of the proc but the heatsink doesnt wanna come off with them inwards or outwards. Heres a pic to help explain http://lbi.250free.com/overhead.jpg and http://lbi.250free.com/side.jpg

Anywho, I wanna remove the heatsink to replace it with: http://www.cyberguys.com/templ...detail.asp?T1=148+0358

Edit: Should have read your thread 1st before putting the link up.

If I remember right it was sort of an option to take off the flat black heat sink. It's a pain to take off, at least it was for me. The problem could be is that the heatsink you want to get, will it reach down to the L2 cache surface mounts. Or would it matter if the heatsink reaches them. I don't remember if I ended up taking my flat plate off or not. I would have to find the processor to see and check, but I think I left it on there.

Hmmm... so I just take a flathead screwdriver and start pring up the heatsink?

I guess so, i'll give it a shot in the morning.
