I just setup a video capture box in my basement so I can do video capture without tying up my main PC. The program is very flaky, if I look at it wrong, it crashes. As I was afraid, it uses overlay, which cannot be seen through VNC or RDP, so I can't actually see the progress.

Other then buying and setting up a monitor downstairs and run down to check progress every now and then, what would be an alternative way of viewing the capture? Even if it's a tool that just grabs a screenshot or something, I don't need 100% real time video, just real time enough for me to know I can stop the capture and go rewind the tape.

edit: I actually meant to post this in Video Cards and Graphics.

try Microsoft Live Mesh (www.mesh.com). it's free and seems to use a different protocol than RDP that's more akin to looking at your monitor.

I'm hoping for something local, I don't like opening up unnecessary means to get into my network. I have my openvpn server which only allows the IP of my workplace, and that's as far as I go. Guessing this is like log me in? Does sound neat though, if worse comes to worse I'll try it.

I'm also looking at this: http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicatio...y=REVIEWS#tabs

kinda pricy though, but think it would work? I could just run it through my patch panel as I have two jacks at my pc support desk with a monitor there. So all I'd have to do is look behind me for progress.
