How to reinstall Win98SE

I want to re-install Win98SE upgrade into a new Hardrive. I boot my computer with the Win98SE start up disk, insert Win98SE CD in the drive and type Setup from the CD and I get a mesage "This program needs to run in Windows" or something like that. All I want to do is install Win98SE in my new drive clean and then transfer my files from my old disk that now is the slave drive. Also I will like to retain somo of my old settings like passwords, etc. Any help will be appreciated.

sounds like you have a win98 UPGRADE cd. are you sure it's really the full retail version? have you tried booting off the cd?

Well sounds like you have already discovered your problem and just don't know it. If it is an upgrade cd then it has to recognize an existing version of windows to install.
You will have to install your full version of windows first on the new drive would be my guess, unless someone knows a way around it .

sohcrates, Yes what have is the Windows98 Second Edition Updates CD. How can I do the clean install from DOS.

cpars, The full version of Win98 is in my old drive (the slave drive now). The problem is that I want to do a clean install of the upgrade from DOS. Once I have the setup going all I have to do is telling the path of the full version, but I keep geting the mesage that setup needs Windows to run. I have done other upgrades before and never have this problem.

ReCo maybe you misunderstood there are
two differnet version of the CD you have
Upgrade and Full. If you have upgrade IT
WILL NOT RUN from DOS. If you had full
version that you would be able to do what
you are trying right now.
Only way you use that CD is within
Windows as an upgrade from 95 or 98FE.
