How to reinstall a Windows 8 dell alienware aurora r4 to factory defaults?

Friend of mine had his PC scammed (guy calls, tells you they are Microsoft and that you are infected, get into your PC and then lock you out and ask for money $ to let you back in).

Anyways, he has a Dell Alienware Aurora R4 PC running (shipped with) Windows 8 or 8.1 - I am not sure but I know he has not upgraded/changed anything. The system came with a resource DVD (nothing else).

Now all we want to do is restore it to factory default, there is nothing on it of any importance to save ...

I looked on the internet and found what looks like the proper solution:

- Enter the advanced repair options (holding shift on boot), select "Troubleshoot"
>> "Dell Backup and Recovery icon" is missing (how could this be?

Without this I am totally stuck ...
Any suggestions? Recommendations? Ideas?

Thanks,

Check your partition layout. It's possible that the Dell partition has been wiped out entirely. In which case it wouldn't be capable of self-restoring.

Download the drivers for his computer from Dell.
Download an ISO of Windows 8.1 and create a boot disk or boot USB flash drive.
Do a fresh install on his computer.

Is there a simple way to walk someone over the phone to check that when he doesn't have the ability to login to his PC?
Nope. If you have to do this over the phone and not in person, just throw out all the complex answers and jump straight to Ketchup's: spend the money on recovery discs and save yourself a headache.

II just went through this with my sisters Dell.....if your machine is out of warranty the disks will cost you the same as a one time service call.....$129.00 or toy can get an additional warranty for $239.......and whichever way you go they will send you the disks and call you back when the disk arrive and help you with the install.
If you do the install yourself -- f12 is your friend..........

If you have a recovery partition.....you need to keep hitting f12 and rebooting and hitting f12 until a blue screen appears with options.......keep trying the options(because O don`t remember exactly) and eventually it will take you to another blue screen that will say something like refresh your PC....which will refresh your PC and some of what you had will be saved......my sisters pictures were saved...but I had to download her virus protection and Windows Media and some other stuff......good luck!!
