how to recover the data?

i try to reinstall winxp to a 400gb hdd (100gb / 300gb, still formatted before install), the first partiation is empty and the second partiation have about 250gb files. but while i install winxp, it only show the first paritation, then i choose to format it and install. however, after i installed, the second partiation is lost and it show the total size is just 127gb.

how to recover the second paritation and data?

Go to Control Panel>Admin Tools>Computer Management>Disk Management to see if your partitions are there...

They should list all the unallocated space of all partitions on all physical drives. Find out if it's missing there.

U can also use tools like Acronis to find these missing partitions... I think your issue has to do with partition tables being fuxed up and showing up as foreign disks...

if u do see the other partions in disk management and they are foreign u could right click on those partitions and enable them

as far as recovery goes u would need to use something like acronis.

Yep, Win XP sp1 can't work with larger hard disk drives.

If you really lost one of your partitions and it is detected as unalocated space in Disk Management, you definitely need any partition recovery software like Disk Director of Acronis as JackRipper said.
