For some reason,I go to use my laptop,(which is the one that my son uses),and all I see is a reinstalled Windows Vista CD,which is with the computer came with, the D: drive that said recovery got formatted some how and it just has free space 14gigs...I can`t hurt him for trying !!!!

So here`s my problem I have my re-install discs, but when it starts to do an install of windows it gets to 30% in expanding files and then says some files are missing,I guess whatever my boy did really messed me up<the computer seems useless if I can`t do a fresh re-install!!!

Does anybody know how I can fix my problem?

Or even know where I can get a back-up of the Recovery Drive?
It might be my problem:confused:

You will need to get another copy of windows. Preferably the same OEM that would have came with your computer. A generic one will work but you will probably end up having to install drivers.

If you have to get another CD I would suggest buying Win8.1 or Win7 at the least. You will have to use the advanced option before installing in the partition area. Delete all the partitions, then create a "New" partition. You should be fine from there on assuming the LT's hardware is all fully functional.

Well you have 90 days to be your own judge on 8.1 and if you find you don't like it then 7 is a lot more like the Vista you were used to. If your PC could handle running Vista it will run 7 and 8 even better.

I have a 7811 FX and it runs both 7 and 8.1 great. The 6860 FX should run either just fine.

As to your Vista disk, I have to think the disk is bad. If you really need a Vista Disk I could do a disk copy and send it to ya for the cost of shipping. I have the original Vista disk from my 7811FX which should be the exact same. You would just have to put your OEM key in from the bottom of your laptop.

Do you have the OEM vista install disk or the OEM OS recovery CDs? Either or would be fine if the disks weren't trashed or damaged. Have you tried cleaning the disks?

I wouldn't worry about the recovery partition. especially at this point.

One other thing, do you have a spare cd drive you could use for install? I've run into odd issues sometimes with disks that look fine but some readers have issues with them. Different drives work fine.

No I don't have the recovery partition any more. The original hard drive, a 200gb drive, went bad a couple of years ago and I put in two 320 gig Western Digital Scorpio Blacks to run a raid system.

What I will do, even though you don't have enough post to private message, is I will send you a personal message with my email. Email me the shipping information and we can go from there man.
